2010 HIV/AIDS Community Grants RFP Guidelines

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) grants a portion of the funds generated by the San Francisco AIDS Walk to support programs, initiatives, and activities which help bring about the radical reduction of HIV and its impact in the Bay Area.

Eligibility

The Foundation will accept proposals for 2010 HIV/AIDS Community Grants from organizations and programs based in one or more of the following six counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara. We are able to consider only one proposal from any agency. HIV/AIDS-specific organizations as well as other nonprofits providing AIDS-specific services are eligible to apply.

Eligibility for grant awards will require the following:
  • Proof of 501(c)(3) status or a fiscal sponsor
  • Willingness and ability to fulfill grantee obligations to support the Walk event (see application for details)
If your agency had an operating deficit of 5% or more of the operating budget in the past two fiscal years, please provide an explanation of how the agency will balance its budget in the current fiscal year.

The consideration of our applicant’s year-end financial position is intended to ensure that the grant awards support organizations that have demonstrated a consistent record of fiscal soundness.

Grant Review Process

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation will review applications for eligibility. There will be no panel review of applications. Decisions on grant recipients and award amounts are final and may not be appealed.

Awards

Organizations meeting the above eligibility criteria will receive grant awards.
  • For HIV/AIDS-specific organizations, the grants will be for general operating expenses.
  • For non-HIV/AIDS-specific organizations, grants will be for support of HIV/AIDS program(s) only
In order to allocate grant awards on an equitable and transparent basis, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation will link award amounts to the budget size of the applicant organization. (If the applicant is not an HIV/AIDS-specific organization, award amounts will be linked to the budget size of the organization's HIV/AIDS programs.) We anticipate making awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. As in previous years, all grant awards are dependent on the success of the AIDS Walk and are not guaranteed until the event is over and proceeds have been collected.
