HIV/AIDS Atlas will help target HIV prevention efforts
June 22, 2009--A new research tool that might alter the landscape of national epidemiologic research was launched yesterday in Washington, D.C. The HIV/AIDS Atlas, an online tool produced by the National Minority Quality Forum, will highlight local communities’ HIV prevalence data, including age, gender, and race/ethnicity, where available. The Atlas also allows users to see HIV/AIDS data by Congressional district, enabling a clearer understanding of how federal resources can be deployed most effectively prevent HIV infections, treat and care for people living with HIV and AIDS.
“With a strategic goal of a 50 percent reduction in new HIV infections in San Francisco by 2015, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation looks forward to using AIDS Atlas,” said Mark Cloutier, the Foundation’s CEO. “Atlas data will help us mobilize local partners in government, clinical practice and at other community organizations to understand where we need to target our efforts.”
AIDS Atlas will be available at
www.MapHIV.org.
