Video transcript:

How do I get PrEP?

Jasmin: Hi everyone, I’m Jasmin

Felipe: And I’m Felipe

Jasmin: We help people access PrEP at San Francisco AIDS Foundation

Felipe: One of the questions we get all the time is, how do I pay for PrEP if I don’t have health insurance?

Jasmin: That’s a great question. Isn’t PrEP really expensive?

Felipe: It doesn’t have to be. Many of our clients get PrEP for free or at a very reduced cost. Drug assistance programs can pay for the medication, and health insurance can help pay for the rest.

Jasmin: Felipe, did you know that more than 3 million Californians don’t have health insurance?

Felipe: That’s a lot of people.

Jasmin: Some people may think it’s too expensive to get health insurance, but in our state you can get affordable coverage by signing up through Covered California. Many people will qualify for tax credits that will reduce the cost of their premiums.

Felipe: So, bottom line, Covered California is a great option if you need coverage for any medical condition, or want to start or continue PrEP. It’s especially great to have if you aren’t able to go to a free clinic for your PrEP appointments.

Jasmin: Now’s the time to sign up. Sign up before January 15.

Felipe: If you have questions, send us and email or stop by our drop-in hours to talk to an enrollment counselor. We can help you pick out a plan that’s right for you.
